May is here — and I’m doing something a little intense… a full-blown No Spend Challenge for the entire month.
After my relapse in late April and the gut-punch reality of my debt increasing, I knew I needed to go into May with intention and discipline. Not only financially — but emotionally and mentally too.
🚫 What I Won’t Be Spending On
Let’s get clear. Here are the things I’m cutting out cold turkey:
- No Amazon impulse buys 📦
- No Target “just browsing” that turns into $87 of stuff I don’t need 🎯
- No new clothes, skincare, or random house stuff
- No happy hours or takeout orders 🍕🍸
- No coffee runs, or “treat myself” moments out of habit
If something breaks this month and I really need a replacement, I’ll ask friends or family if I can borrow it first. This is about resourcefulness, not deprivation.
✅ What I Will Spend On (Necessities Only)
This isn’t about being unrealistic — it’s about making conscious choices. So I’ll still pay for:
- Rent and essential bills
- Groceries 🥦
- Dog food 🐶
- A pre-planned baby shower gift 🎁
- Mother’s Day — but likely opting for a nice homemade dinner vs. eating out 💐
If friends treat me out and insist on covering the bill, I’ll go — but I’ve already told most of my circle that I’m off the grid when it comes to spending this month. And they totally get it.
💼 Leveling Up My Side Hustles This Month
This isn’t just a no-spend month — it’s a more-earn one too. Here’s how I’m planning to boost my income:
- Consulting: I’m going to ask if I can take on a few more hours after my full-time job.
- Reselling: My goal is to list at least one item every day on eBay, OfferUp, or Facebook Marketplace.
- Digital content: I’ll continue working on blog posts, Pinterest, and content creation as I build toward long-term income streams.
🧠 Mindset Shift: From Consumption to Creation
This challenge isn’t just about avoiding purchases. It’s about breaking habits that have kept me stuck — and replacing them with better ones:
- Fewer scrolls on shopping apps = more time for reflection, writing, and walks
- Less dopamine from buying = more satisfaction from discipline
- Less reacting = more creating 💻📷
🧾 The Goal?
By the end of the month, I want to look back and see:
- A lower debt total
- Increased income
- A more grounded mindset
I know not every day will be easy. But I’ve hit my version of rock bottom, and I know now — I’m capable of building back.

If you’ve been thinking about doing your own No Spend Month — even just a “No Spend Week” — try it with me. Track it, write it down, see how your mindset shifts.
I’ll share a recap at the end of May with how I did — the wins, the hard parts, and how much of a dent I was able to make in my financial comeback.
Let’s do this. 💪🏽💸
